Myrrh is a gum-resin obtained from Commiphora molmol, an Arabian myrtle tree. It stimulates the function of MUCOUS MEMBRANE with which it is brought in contact or by which it is excreted. Tincture of myrrh is used for a gargle in sore throat, as a toothwash when the gums are inflamed, and as an ingredient of cough mixtures.
