A benign tumour comprising mainly CONNECTIVE TISSUE – the substance that surrounds body structures, binding them together. Examples are neurofibroma, affecting connective tissue around nerves, and ovarian fibroma which develops around the follicles from which eggs (ova) develop in the OVARIES. Unless the fibroma is causing symptoms (as a result of pressure on surrounding tissues) it does not require treatment. If symptoms occur, the tumour is removed surgically.
