A drug used to treat GOUT in the acute stage. Its use is limited by the development of toxicity at higher doses, but in patients with heart failure it may be preferable to NON-STEROIDAL ANTIINFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDS), which tend to cause fluid retention.
